About the Event

At the request of our Virtual Coffee House 55+ Members, we have set up an art history discussion group. We have chosen a group of Artworks by African Women for this month. Billie Zangewa, Mary Sibande, Sandra Suubi and Solarin Yetunde.

Read anything you can find and then join us. Most of us have no art history background but wish to learn about art and life in different places during different periods of time.! Here is some information to help.

Billie Zangewa Malawi-Born, Johannesburg-based artist.

She celebrates and explores feminism and identity through textile works expressing her own personal experience.

Mary Sibande South African artist.

Her art consists of sculptures, paintings, photography and design. She uses these mediums and techniques to help depict the human form and explore the construction of identity in a post-colonial South African context.

Sandra Suubi Ugandan musician and eco-artist.

She recycles plastic waste to create installations, stage backdrops, jewelry and home decor.
